STREET BAND WORKSHOP with OI MUSICA Join a fun, friendly and highly enjoyable workshop session that aims to challenge, inspire and bring out the fun of playing music in a group! Try drumming for the first time or bring your brass/reed instrument and experience the buzz of playing in an intergenerational band. Led by street band specialists Oi Musica, creators of double award-winning youth project Brass Blast, and renowned UK-wide for their inventive live performances and inclusive education work. Wherever they occur in the world, street bands are raw, inventive and unapologetic. They emerge from grassroots, social music making within communities, and whether their focus is celebration, commemoration or protest, street band music is about bringing people together. You will learn a piece of music by ear, gain an understanding of how street bands work and what the key performance ingredients are. Expect a relaxed, friendly atmosphere, plenty of encouragement, challenge if you want it, and the chance to meet and connect with fellow musicians. Led by Marcus Britton (brass/reeds) and Sam Ward-Hardy (drums/percussion) Suitable for drummers and brass/reeds players age 12 and over. Beginner and experienced drummers are welcome and catered for (samba drums provided). If you are a brass/reed player please bring your own instrument. Some experience on your instrument is required to take part in the workshop.
