Traverse Theatre
Traverse Theatre, 10 Cambridge Street, Edinburgh EH1 2ED
The legendary Cauld Blast Orchestra, dormant for 20 years, is reborn with new blood and the same trailblazing spirit! Formed in 1990 they took their eclectic mix of folk, jazz, rock, and world music to WOMAD, London Queen Elizabeth Hall, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Stockholm Koncerthuset, Celtic Connections, BBC Radio 3 Here & Now, BBC2 The Late Show and more. An unholy folk, jazz, roots and classical hybrid – born in Scotland, but without frontiers! The CBO now returns to the Traverse with its current 10 -piece ensemble, including two well-known young Scots trad musicians. Expect wonky reels, a tango, rollicking jazz solos, poignant airs, and much more! Karen Wimhurst (clarinets); Steve Kettley (saxes); Anne Wood (violin); Iain Johnstone (piano, tuba, accordion, tenor horn); Rick Bamford (drums, percussion); Alex Hudson Craufurd (bass); Robin Mason (cello); Andy Cooke (African xylophone, thumb piano, ennanga, perc); Gillie O’Flaherty (guitar, mandolin); Sam Mabbett (melodion).
